_Monday Night Football _has some clunkers, like this week’s
Panthers-Eagles matchup, but also some excellent matchups remaining on
tap for 2012.

Such is the way of life with the week’s last game.

Let’s rank the remaining five matchups, and we’ll start with the
worst so we can build some momentum and end on a high note.

NO. 4 A: WEEK 12, CAROLINA PANTHERS AT PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

NO. 4 B: WEEK 15, NEW YORK JETS AT TENNESSEE TITANS

How do you differentiate between these two? You don’t. That’s the
only possible answer.

We have four teams headed nowhere in these two matchups. Each game
has a high-profile team (Eagles and Jets) that has under performed and
fallen under immense media scrutiny to the point where it is more a
circus than an NFL franchise, but at least that gives the matchup
something vaguely entertaining.

On the other side of things, we have two young teams that opened up
the season with hopes of making a playoff run and both are falling way
under expectations.

Both of those teams have second-year, dual-threat quarterbacks, but
they aren’t exactly putting up performances that make it must see TV.

So, these two matchups are equally bad.

NO. 3: WEEK 16, ATLANTA FALCONS AT DETROIT LIONS

This is the last Monday night game of the season, and it seemed at
the beginning of the year, this could be for playoff positioning. That
is no longer realistic with the 4-7 Lions.

Still, while the Lions have regressed, they are still a big-play team
and their games are usually entertaining, and the 10-1 Falcons could
be looking at securing the NFC’s top seed in this game.

This game should produce some big plays and exciting football.

NO. 2: WEEK 13, NEW YORK GIANTS AT WASHINGTON REDSKINS

Robert Griffin III is a good watch in any game. The rookie does
something jaw dropping every time out. This game is about much more
than RG3 though.

The Redskins trail the Giants by just two games in the NFC East.

If they can find a way to protect their home field, they will be a
game out of first with just four games left.

However, the Giants managed to get their mojo back this past Sunday
night while whooping up on the Packers. We’ll see if New York can turn
that momentum into another late-season run.

NO. 1: WEEK 14, HOUSTON TEXANS AT NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

This game will be a battle of powers. The Patriots currently trail
the Texans by two games for the best record in the AFC, and it is
unlikely they will catch them, but if they are going to run them down,
they almost have to win this game.

Seeding aside, though, this should just be a dynamic game. Both teams
will be looking to make a statement, and we will see the mighty Texans
defense take on the mighty Patriots’ offense. Will Tom Brady be able
to avoid J.J. Watt?

On the other side, the Patriots have done an excellent job of
defending the run, but they’ve struggled mightily against the pass.

This will force the Texans to take to the air, and that will make for
an exciting game. Flag Props
